AMAZON says it was “concerned” to hear that a former Bradford City footballer who was convicted of sex offences involving a 14-year-old girl was recently working as a driver for one of its delivery service providers.

Ex-Bantam Tyrell Robinson “will no longer be working” for Bryanston, Amazon said, after the company realised who he was.

Delivery company Bryanston insisted that it carries out background checks on “all drivers” it employs, adding that it is now investigating the matter.

Bryanston also confirmed that Robinson, 23, will no longer be working for the company.

Robinson, of South Ockendon, Essex, admitted engaging in sexual activity with a child, making an indecent image of a child and distributing an indecent image of a child when he appeared at Bradford Crown Court in June.

The offences took place between December 2017 and August 2018.

He has not yet been sentenced, although was warned by Judge Jonathan Rose that prison time is “very much” a possibility.

Robinson was sacked by Bradford City, for whom he made 23 league appearances, for gross misconduct in February, after police announced the charges against him.

An Amazon spokesperson told the Telegraph & Argus: “We were concerned to hear of this matter and immediately contacted our delivery service provider who have confirmed this driver will no longer be working for them and they are investigating the circumstances behind this situation.

“We always require the companies we work with to conduct comprehensive background checks on their drivers.”

A Bryanston spokesperson added: “We carry out background checks on all drivers. We are investigating the circumstances behind this matter but can confirm he will no longer be delivering parcels on our behalf.”
