A DRIVE-IN church service is set to take place at Girlington Morrisons on Christmas Day.

In a year that has tested both our faith and strength, Rev Chris Chorlton, the rector of Girlington, Heaton and Manningham parish, wanted to bring people of all ages together for prayers.

The short outdoor service will start at 11am sharp and feature carols, a brass band and the chance for you to wave to loved ones from the safety of your car.

Rev Chris Chorlton told the Telegraph & Argus: "When everything is different this Christmas we wanted to offer a different service that was accessible to all - especially those who are shielding so haven't returned to Church yet. This short service will include carols and the opportunity to be together as a community on this special day."

While Lily Romani, community champion at Girlington Morrisons, said: "I was very excited when Rev Chris came to me with this idea, after such a tough year this is just the boost we all need. The Christmas Day service is so important to so many members of our community and we at Morrisons were happy to be able to play a small part in bringing the idea to life."

The event has been designed in mind for those who are particularly vulnerable or unable to see their family and friends on Christmas Day. Girlington All Over Taxis is providing journeys for those who don’t have a car - people should call 01274 488595 for a place on this scheme. Rev Chorlton has paid special thanks to Morrisons for the use of the car park.

Shahid Iqbal, who works for Girlington All Over Taxis, said: "During the Covid-19 pandemic the Bradford community has lost a lot of people dear to them. Christmas is an ideal time for Muslims and Christians in the community to come together more than usual.

"We will be pleased to provide Girlington All Over Taxis to bring people free of charge to the service. Just leave your details with Rev Chris Chorlton and we will contact you."
