A 17-year-old boy who died in a crash on Saturday night has been named as Piotr Piekara.

The teenager was driving a Ford Fiesta when it left the carriageway on Leeds Inner Ring Road and collided with a bridge at about 9.30pm on Saturday.

Piotr was taken to hospital from the crash on the A64(M), but died in hospital from his injuries.

Two male passengers, aged 17 and 18, suffered minor injuries.

A West Yorkshire Police statement said: "Piotr's family would like to thank everyone for the thoughts, the prayers and the love which they have shown towards them during this difficult time

"Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the vehicle prior to the collision to come forward.

"Officers are also keen to speak to anyone who might have dashcam footage of the incident."

Chapeltown Youth Development Centre, where Piotr played football for Chapeltown Juniors, said in a statement on Facebook: "It’s with deep regret we have to inform you that Piotr has passed away after a horrific car crash.

"We can't believe this young Chapeltown junior FC Footballer/Family, a beautiful, well mannered, respectful young man with his whole life ahead of him - gone way to soon.

"Chapeltown Junior FC would like to send out condolences to the family; RIEP Piotr.

"We feel so hurt we have lost a beautiful young man, always remembered never forgotten."
