THE Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced major changes to Christmas plans affecting Bradford in a press conference this afternoon.

The five day loosening on restrictions has been slashed to just one day - Christmas Day - a huge blow to people's plans for the festive period.

Mr Johnson has also asked the whole nation to "stay local" and consider if travel is necessary.

He said that he has "must do what is necessary to protect the public", and "there is no alternative to me as your Prime Minister".

The Prime Minister said: "I know how important it is for families to be together and how disappointing this will be, but we must be guided by the science.

"When the science changes we must change our plans.

"Hospitals would be overwhelmed and many thousands would die.

"Christmas this year will be very different but we must be realistic. We are sacrificing the chance to see our loved ones for a better chance to save their lives and see them at future Christmases. As day follows night we will defeat this virus."

London and parts of the South East and East of England, which were moved to Tier 3 earlier this week, will now be moved into an new Tier 4 to try and halt the rapid spread of Covid-19 in these regions.

For people in these areas Christmas is cancelled, with people banned from meeting anyone from their household indoors over the next two weeks, and are only allowed to meet one other person in an outdoor public space.

People in these areas are also told not to leave their area, and people from outside Tier 4 are told not to enter those areas.

People must also stay at home except for essential travel, and all non-essential shops and gyms must close.

Communal worship is allowed ot continue in all areas.
