A DUNKIN’ Donuts drive-through is set to open in Bradford next week, the operators have confirmed.

Work began earlier this year to build a second fast food restaurant on the former Wiltex House site at Odsal Road.

But local residents haveeady reiterated their fears over how close the new store is to their homes as well as over smells and noises from the drive-through's order points.

When the plans were first approved in 2018, it was expected that a Taco Bell would be built next to the KFC restaurant and drive-through already on the site. Residents learned of the change to Dunkin' Donuts when banners were installed at the site.

Now the operators have confirmed that the store will open on Tuesday, December 15, and that no donuts will be made on site, so there will be no baking smells.

A spokesman for the firm said: "DUNKIN’ are extremely excited to be opening their first in Bradford and second drive thru in the UK, adding the Bradford Drive Thru will be the third in Europe.

"They truly are a neighbourhood donut and coffee shop where they hand finish donuts and munchkins® at their new production facility in Lancashire.

"Their remote production facility allows them to join local communities without the challenges of odour and noise with excessive extraction, by simply preparing off-site and delivering freshly-baked goods each morning.

"The opening of DUNKIN’ Odsal Rd has created 35 new jobs in Bradford and thanks to the locals, they had many applications."

Last month the Telegraph & Argus revealed that the Council had investigated a complaint about how close the development was to houses.

It emerged that the building is actually further away from the house - although it is “within acceptable planning tolerances”.

The new application involves amending the existing drive through lane in order to improve the access and to create an additional order point.

There have been a small number of objections one resident saying the tannoy system is so close to her daughter's bedroom she won't be able to sleep.

Another has complained about the noise from cars and the drive-through tannoy system - as well as about the potential for doughnut smells.

Of the planning issues, the spokesman added that the changes involve an additional guest door to the Dunkin' Donuts building, and re-routing the KFC drive through lane to add an extra order point.

They also add that following concerns about the location of the new building, "an enforcement officer attended site, reviewed and checked the building against the approved plans and found it was situated according to the granted planning application".

The latest application is expected to go to committee in January, at a local councillor’s request.
