A FILM showing a century of life in Bradford is to have an online premiere.

A snapshot of life from 1896 to the 1990s, Bradford on Film includes sports matches, mill work, nightclubs and early days of Bradford Mela. It will be presented on Facebook by the Yorkshire Film Archive on Thursday, December 10 at 7.30pm.

The footage, selected from a remarkable YFA collection, reveals communities, landmark events and lives of people in Bradford filmed by local film-making companies, amateurs and regional TV. The journey through Bradford’s heritage begins in 1896 with a bustling Town Hall Square, and includes City's 1911 FA Cup success, Silver Jubilee celebrations of George V in 1935 and the heyday of Manningham Mills. YFA manager Graham Relton said: "Facebook premiere screening is a first for the Archive, we’re looking forward to reading live comments and seeing the reactions to the footage...you never know, you may even see yourself on film!”

The screening will give context to the films, but the YFA is asking people to add their local knowledge and experience: what are your memories of Odsal, Kirkgate Market or Blue Lace Nightclub?

The one-hour premiere will shine a spotlight on local film-makers like Eric Hall and Fred Dewhirst, and reveal the film legacy of professional film company CH Wood Ltd which recorded the changing face of the city. Local characters include Mohamed Fazal Hussain, elder statesman and wannabe film mogul of Bradford's Muslim community, and Yorkshire Television presenter Richard Whiteley taking the Santa Special on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.
