STAFF stood outside Bradford Royal Infirmary this evening to return thanks for the people who clapped and cheered them on during the first peak of the virus.
In what seems like a lifetime ago, the Clap For Our Carers movement saw people stand outside their doorsteps every Thursday evening and make some noise for the NHS and other key workers.
Now the trust, Bradford Teaching Hospitals, wanted to 'reflect' those rainbows of hope and gratitude back to the community around them.
Gathered socially-distanced outside the main entrance at Bradford Royal Infirmary, near to A&E, staff braved the rain and lit up the area with rainbow lights.
Key buildings in Bradford – including City Hall – are also floodlit in the spirit of 'Clap for the Community'.
Speaking to the Telegraph & Argus, Professor Mel Pickup, the trust's CEO, said: "It's more about what it means to our communities.
"We have all been so appreciative for the love and support that was shown to us during the Spring and Summer, not just for the Clap For Our Carers which was a real morale boost but by the many gifts and donations and the love that was shown to us by everyone in the community at such a difficult time.
"We just wanted to repay that really and that was what tonight was about."
A spokesperson for the Trust said: "Thank you for your support. It means the world to our staff."
