A Bradford teenager has been detained in a young offender institution for three and a half years for two offences of rape of a child under 13.

Several years ago, Hassan Nisar abused the little girl, prosecutor Soheil Khan told Bradford Crown Court.

Nisar, now 19, of Rooley Lane, Bradford, denied the charges but was convicted by a jury in October and sentenced yesterday by Judge Jonathan Gibson.

He made a Sexual Harm Prevention Order without limit of time and Nisar must sign on the sex offender register for an indefinite period.

Judge Gibson told him that he knew what was doing was wrong. He himself now recognised that his conduct was “vile and disgusting,” when he orally raped the child twice.

Nisar’s barrister, Catherine Silverton, said he understood the serious impact of his behaviour on the child.

In the three years since the offences, the A level student had made great strides in his life. He was in employment and had been offered places at two universities.

He was of previous good character and had committed no offences since.

“He’s now a very different young man with the prospect of leading a positive life,” Miss Silverton said.

But Judge Gibson said the offences were far too serious for a non-custodial sentence.

He reduced his starting point for the period of detention to take account of Nisar’s age at the time and the fact that he would be serving part of his sentence during the Covid-19 lockdown.
