LOCALS have spoken of the “panic and chaos” that ensued after a man died on a Bradford street yesterday.

A murder inquiry is underway and a 24-year-old man remains in custody following the incident on Airedale Road, near Peel Park, yesterday morning.

Emergency services attended a house on the street at 8.40am and found a 59-year-old man with a serious head injury.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police cordon remained in place at the scene today as residents expressed their shock, saying that the area is “normally quiet”.

“I live quite a way up the street from where it happened, but I heard screaming yesterday”, said one local resident.

“There was panic and chaos. I heard screams, from what I think sounded like a female voice.

“Everyone has been talking about it. I was in the Post Office at the top of the road earlier on, and it was the main topic of conversation there. It’s big news around here.”

Another resident added: “It’s normally very quiet here. Everyone just keeps themselves to themselves.

“You wouldn’t expect something like this to happen on this street.

“I didn’t know the victim personally, but I used to see him around often, walking up and down the street.

“No one who lives on this street or in this area is particularly worried - we don’t think there’s a wider threat, it seems to be an isolated incident.

“But at the same time, it’s obviously not very nice as it’s happened right here on our doorstep.

“It has definitely affected the local community and it will do for some time, I think.”
