THIS is the moment a shocked care worker won a dream holiday to a Caribbean Island after a competition by a Bradford-based travel agency.

Tyler Brown Travel, an independent travel agency which has a site at New Lane, Laisterdyke, gave away a fortnight holiday to Nevis after running a competition earlier this year.

The firm's Social Care Hero contest was launched in the summer to find that someone who had gone that extra mile throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

Michelle Adamson, from Liverpool, was chosen as the winner and the chief executive of the company she works for surprised her with a visit to her home to tell her the great news.

In the video, a shocked Michelle said 'You're joking, Oh my God'.

She was chosen from around 200 social care workers across the country.

Michelle co-ordinated a range of TikTok videos celebrating social care workers, which produced more than100,000 views. She started a local social campaign highlighting the importance of their works and also to celebrate the social care workforce.

She conducted a range of interviews on the radio and in local and national news outlets, all helping to raise fellow carers spirits and to show how much they are valued.

Sadly, Michelle was struck down by ill health earlier this year, which has forced her to stay at home, but she has continued to help others.

She will enjoy the dream trip to Nevis when travel restrictions allow.

James Brown, founder of Tyler Brown Travel, was born on the island of Nevis and has more than 20 years' experience of the social care business, paid tribute to Michelle.

She said: "Michelle loved it, she was very, very happy. It was very difficult to pick a winner.

"I felt humbled. She is just so compassionate about her care.

"I was not shocked or surprised by the high standard of entries, just pleased.

"They are the unsung heroes and people should hear about them."

"I felt this was the right thing to do, to highlight the challenges facing the social care sector workers.

"These workers very rarely make headline news, the wonderful and selfless contributions made by frontline social care workers to the lives of people across the varying care sectors can only be described as heroic.

Paul Growney, CEO of Caring Connections, said: "I am so very proud of Michelle. She has had a tough time this year, but always has kept a smile on her face and put her colleagues before herself. Absolutely made up for her to win this special trip."
