A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson confirmed the man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene.

The street was cordoned off as police investigations continued.

There was a heavy police presence at the scene yesterday afternoon with a Crime Scene Investigation marked vehicle, three marked police vans and a marked police car on Airedale Road.

Cllr David Ward (The Liberal Democrat and Independent Group, Bolton and Undercliffe) says residents around the house may be in shock following the incident.

He said: “It’s just shocking really. You have to describe it as a tragedy.

“We don’t know the full details yet of what’s occurred.

“People in the locality will be extremely distressed. We will have to wait and see where the full investigation finds out and where that leads.

“It must be a terrible shock to members of the local community. You don not expect that sort of thing to happen on your own doorstep.”

An onlooker, who did not wish to be named, said: “It’s a quiet little cul-de-sac.

“There was a police officer standing by the door of the house. Detectives have been going from door-to-door speaking to people here.

“People where did not seem to know what was going on here.”

Officers have launched an investigation to try establish the circumstances of the situation.
