SIGNIFICANT steps forward have been made at a major junction redevelopment.

Howard Civil Engineering, which is undertaking the Greengates Crossroad Improvement works on behalf of Bradford Council, released its fortnightly update yesterday.

In the past two weeks, workers have completed the reconstruction of garden walls along New Line, opposite Asda.

Private footpaths will be reinstated in these gardens over the coming weeks.

The Core Gym and Greggs car park is mostly finished too - including surfacing, white lining, paving to the islands and topsoiling.

A spokesperson for Howard Civil Engineering said: "Passers-by will notice a significant change to the Farmfoods corner of the junction as we continue to remove over 3000 tonnes of material.

"This will enable us to construct the new retaining wall foundations for the widened road on New Line."

In the area where a P-loop is being built, workers have continued to install ducting and further surface water drainage.

They discovered an unknown gas service there over the past two weeks, but this has been investigated, capped and removed.

The roads at the crossroad are still reduced to two lanes, as they have been since Sunday, October 18.

For the next two weeks, the Howard Civil Engineering spokesperson said: "Further down the road alongside Farmfoods, we will begin construction of the new retaining wall along the new boundary.

"We will be aiming to complete work to the Core Gym and Greggs car park with a final operation to finish construction of the bin store.

"Over in the P-loop area, we will be continuing to form the road and footpaths and completing drainage works, including the connection to the main sewer."
