A WOMAN is appealing for help in her mission to become a barrister.

Mum-of-four Gemma Lincoln, 39, from Queensbury, has dreamt of entering the law profession since she was a child.

Circumstances and trauma in her life in her late teens and early twenties meant this didn't happen.

But she didn't want this to define her and went back into education at the age of 35 to realise her ambition. She achieved a distinction on her access course and went on to achieve first-class honours in law at Bradford College, before being accepted to the BPP University in Leeds.

But, she now needs to pay £3,500 in order to continue and is hoping to raise it through a fundraising page she has set up.

It says: "I am currently studying for a place on the bar and if I pass all my exams I will be called to the bar, July 2021.

"Whilst doing this course, I have also been mum to four beautiful children, two boys and two girls. My second eldest son also suffers with cerebral palsy. I am from a working class background and am the first in my family to even contemplate going to university.

"I am now in a financial situation due to Covid which means that unless I raise £3,500 to give to the university as quickly as possible I will not be able to continue on my course."

She told the Telegraph & Argus that she wants to do it for her family and leave a legacy.

"I know I can do it," she said. "It's my moonshot.

"I don't want to leave without a fight."

On the moment she decided to go back into education after the birth of her daughter, she said: "Something just changed and I wanted to do something with my life. It was like I went round a full circle and got back to myself."
