A RUGBY club has announced a pub will become its new home after “many months of hard work”.

Wyke ARLFC said it is taking on The Crown pub in the village.

A statement issued by club chairman John Rayner said: “This is one of the biggest developments in Wyke Rugby Club’s 130-year history and is the culmination of many months of hard work behind the scenes to try and secure the club a place that as is our own.

"Since we were first formed as a Rugby Union team in 1890 we have moved around various pubs and clubs in the area and never had a place to call our own and our fate was always in someone else’s hands.

"This move allows us to finally lay some roots and kick on over the coming years to really grow Wyke ARLFC and the game of Rugby League.

The pub is currently undergoing refurbishment and an official opening date is to be announced.
