AN owner of a Bradford bar fears uncertainty around the tier system could ‘kill off’ some smaller breweries and bars.

Keith Wildman, owner of The Record Café on North Parade, says the government’s tiering system and treatment of the hospitality sector is a ‘farce’.

He predicts West Yorkshire, including Bradford, will be placed into Tier 3 when the government officially announces its decision tomorrow.

Mr Wildman added the tiering system does not feel fair towards the hospitality sector and likened waiting for Bradford’s tier announcement to the draw for a round of the FA Cup.

He said: “It just needs to feel fair.

“No industry has been singled out as much as we have when we have gone above and beyond. We have had the most restrictions in Bradford.

“I think we’re going to be in Tier 3. I think it’s a way of carrying on a lockdown without carrying on with an official lockdown.

It’s like doing an FA Cup draw, waiting to find out what tier we’re in. It’s a farce

“They have changed it so much. It does not get a chance to work. They do all of this and then it can change again. It’s a bit of a mess.

“If we can open, they make it so restrictive that’s it’s difficult to get customers in. It does seem unfair.

“The places the virus does seem to spreads are universities and schools, but hospitality seems to be singled out rather unfairly.

“We’re hearing about it in the newspapers before a government announcement.

“I can’t see any pubs being open. It is all geared to the big pub chains and macro breweries. They are the ones that can open quickly.

“It’s going to kill off and lot of small breweries and independent pubs.”
