YOUR correspondent Mr Heaton (Craven Herald letters, November 19) suggested that shaking hands should be substituted with the Japanese greeting of a bow to each other as a means of controlling germs.

We already have enough foreign imports with all the kissing and cuddling of almost complete strangers when meeting and leaving which seems to have become the norm.

Could I respectfully suggest that the traditional tried and tested Yorkshire greeting be substituted for all greetings ?

Simply incline the head slightly and utter the magic words "Nah Then, Y'orreet?" a greeting which covers all eventualities and is understood worldwide by any Yorkshire person.
