A FINE issued to a hair salon which has stayed open despite the current lockdown restrictions has risen to £17,000.

Quinn Blakey Hairdressing, on Bradford Road, Oakenshaw, has stood in defiance of the current rules which require some businesses, including hairdressers, to close.

The restrictions have been in force since November 5 in a bid to drive infection rates down.

Kirklees Council said this afternoon: "We visited on Saturday and found the business to be open and trading. They have been given a £4,000 fine for trading that day.

"Police visited the premises today and the business was found to again be open and trading. They are now being issued with a further £10,000 fine.

"This takes the total to £17,000."

In a series of videos posted on social media platform Instagram, showing visits from council officers and police, owner Sinead Quinn insists she is not breaking any laws and does not consent to any fines issued.

She told the Telegraph & Argus today that she did not wish to comment on the situation.
