A LANE on a major motorway had reopened, after an oil spillage and accident left it closed for three hours.

The spillage and accident were on the eastbound carriageway of the M62, between junction 28 (Tingley) and junction 29 (Lofthouse Interchange).

The accident was first reported at 1.12pm.

Vehicles were left at a standstill initially, with traffic held at 1.20pm (including those on the entry slip-road) for around 20 minutes.

A spokesperson for Highways England said shortly after: "Lane 3 has been closed due to a spillage in the carriageway after an incident.

"Traffic Officers are currently at the scene."

Traffic was slow, as a result.

But at 4.16pm, the oil spillage had been cleared and the carriageway was fully reopened again.
