A DANGEROUS driver, who collided with other cars in a bid to evade police, has avoided jail.

Viddan Ahmed, 30, fled in the black Seat Leon he was driving, when he spotted an unmarked police car on May 12, 2018, just off Leeds Old Road in Bradford.

Bradford Crown Court heard how two police cars had attempted to block Ahmed off but he pushed his vehicle past, before heading on to Leeds Old Road and driving on the wrong side of the road and on the pavement.

In attempting to avoid the police officers pursuing him, he hit a parked car, reached speeds of more than double the limit, before losing control and crashing into a stationary car at Thornbury roundabout. This collision saw the Seat almost overturn.

He was given a 12 month sentence suspended for two years and disqualified from driving for 12 months.

The court was told that Ahmed, of Woodhall Terrace, Bradford, suffered from anxiety and that he "panicked at the prospect of confrontation" - that was why he fled.

Judge Jonathan Gibson said his driving had taken place in a busy area and involved a pursuit by police - which although had not been very long and fortunately no one had been injured, there had been collisions.

He must also comply with a curfew for 12 weeks, and complete 20 rehabilitation activity days.
