THE opening date of an innovative redistribution supermarket that prevents good food and household products from going to waste has been revealed.

Company Shop Bradford, which will open its doors on December 9, is part of the Company Shop Group, which works with major retailers, manufacturers and brands to redistribute surplus food and household products, including Morrisons, Marks and Spencer, Nestlé, Iceland and Tesco. Products have, on average, around 53 per cent off the normal retail price.

It will be based at the Peel Centre on Valley Road, in a unit occupied until recently by Office Outlet and is set to create 45 new jobs.

Membership to the store is free and open to those working in the NHS, social care and emergency services, prison services, British armed forces, and the fast-moving consumer goods supply chain, as well as temporarily for those working within schools and the local council.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, Company Shop Bradford has extended its membership to all those receiving welfare support. All those eligible need to do is sign up for a free membership card online before the store opens.

Company Shop is also encouraging local manufacturers, retailers and brands to get in touch if they are looking for sustainable surplus solutions for their products.

Steph McGinty, Deputy Managing Director for Company Shop Group said: “With less than a month to go until the official opening of Company Shop Bradford, we are encouraging all individuals and families who are eligible for membership to sign up online as soon as they can, so that they can benefit from the great offers available straight away.

“We are very proud to serve a membership which is made up of many key workers, all of whom are continuing to do a brilliant job on the front-line as the Covid-19 pandemic continues. We are also pleased to be opening up our membership to those receiving welfare support, as we want to do all we can to support the community through these challenging times.

“We are really excited to be bringing Company Shop to Bradford, and would also encourage any local businesses that are interested in doing something positive with their surplus to get in touch.”
