TODAY marks the 15th anniversary of the murder of Bradford police officer Sharon Beshenivsky in the line of duty.

PC Beshenivsky was murdered on November 18, 2005 after being shot dead while attending a suspected robbery in Bradford city centre.

A married mother-of-three, with two stepchildren, PC Beshenivsky was 38-years-old when she was killed just nine months into her policing career.

A memorial to PC Beshenivsky is situated in Norfolk Gardens outside City Hall to commemmorate her life.

Bradford Bulls also installed a memorial bench in her honour at Odsal Stadium, which was unveiled in 2006.

Former Prime Minister praised Mrs Beshenivsky for her  "dedication, professionalism and courage" when a memorial was unveiled in 2009.

Along with colleague PC Teresa Millburn, they were called to the incident at a travel agents in Morley Street. They encountered three robbers, two armed with guns who fatally shot her at point blank range. PC Millburn was also seriously injured in the incident. They then made their getaway in a convoy of cars having stolen £5,405.

Three men were convicted of PC Beshenivsky's murder, and two of manslaughter.

Brothers Mustaf and Yusuf Jama, along with Muzzaker Shah, were sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 35 years for the murder.

Faisal Razzaq was jailed for life with a minimum of 11 years and Hassan Razzaq for 20 years for manslaughter.

Razaq Ul-Haq Aslam was also jailed for eight years for his role in the robbery.

The final suspect in the murder, Piran Ditta Khan, fled to Pakistan after the shooting, where he remained on the run until being arrested in January this year.

He last appeared in court earlier this month as efforts to extradite the 72-year-old suspect continue.
