Fresh plans are in for a Dunkin' Donuts drive-through in Bradford

Permission was granted for a second fast food restaurant on the former Wiltex House site at Odsal Road back in 2018, but at the time it was going to be a Taco Bell outlet.

Local residents and councillors objected to the proximity of the new restaurant to some of the nearby homes, but despite this planners approved the scheme.

Earlier this year, work began on the project, which is next to a KFC restaurant and drive-through, and banners revealed it was going to be a Dunkin' Donuts instead.

Now the building is up, one local resident has complained about how it blocks the light into her home and that it is all she can see from the end of her garden.

She has also complained to Bradford Council about the reality of how close the development is to her home.

But the Council has confirmed that upon investigation it emerged that the building is actually further away from the house - although it is "within acceptable planning tolerances".

The new application involves amending the existing drive through lane in order to improve the access and to create an additional order point. There have already been three objections lodged.

The neighbour, who did not wish to be named, told the Telegraph & Argus: "Our main concerns are the cars are coming closer to the house, the order point being closer too, the pick up window looking directly into our bedroom, noise issues from cars and radios playing loud music, and light not getting onto our living room- just a very large dark wall. It's depressing!"

"We are having difficulty with the phone signal which all our neighbours are saying the same not to mention the emissions, we won't want to go into our garden and breath it in!

"It looks like they are putting lights on the building facing our house as well."

A Council spokesman, said: "We have investigated this complaint and actually found the building to be further away from the complainant’s house and within acceptable planning tolerances.

“The new planning application will be dealt with in the usual way and we welcome comments and submissions which can be sent in via www.bradford.gov.uk/planning.

“In planning terms it makes no difference if the building is a Taco Bell or Dunkin’ Donuts.”

The firm behind the Dunkin Doniut application has been approached for a comment too.

The KFC plans had originally been refused by the Council over concerns about increased traffic at the site and how lighting from the building and car park might affect neighbouring homes.

But that decision was later overturned by a planning inspector, allowing the development of the site to go ahead.
