A CLEANING products company is likely to be given the go ahead to build a huge new base in Bradford this week.

Astonish is currently based on Staithgate Lane, off the M606, but this Summer the company submitted a planning application to move to Gain Lane as part of a £21 million investment in a new headquarters.

It will be the largest unit at the Gain Lane Enterprise Zone, a site partly funded by West Yorkshire Combined Authority as a way of boosting Bradford’s economy.

The company plans to move onto a 123,000 sq ft piece of land on the site and develop a “state of the art” manufacturing site and head office, with the move allowing them to take on an extra 20 staff.

At a meeting of Bradford Council’s Regulatory and Appeals Committee on Thursday, members will be advised to approve the application.

There have been no objections, but the plans have to be decided by the committee due to the size of the development.

Next step in major scheme as business unit plans submitted for Gain Lane site

A family run company, Astonish’s products are are popular with online cleaning guru Mrs Hinch, giving the company a huge web presence.

Announcing the move this Summer, Howard Moss, Managing Director, said: “Our vision is that this will house a state-of-the-art manufacturing site and head office, which including build and fit out will form part of a £21m investment.

“Ultimately, this will ensure we can continue to grow our business for many years to come.

“Having seen a 400 per cent growth surge in the last 10 years alone, it would allow the business to achieve its goal of £100m in sales turnover and 20 new team members, taking our total number of employees to 100 plus.”

He said the move would allow the company to both expand, and remain in the Bradford District.

A report to the committee says the company’s existing site was a prime business unit, and would hopefully find a new occupier soon. It says: “The existing premises they occupy on Staithgate Lane is relatively modern and it is considered that this building will soon be reoccupied due to its location and it being new.”

The report concludes “It is considered that the siting and design of the proposed building is acceptable and it is located sufficiently far enough away from the nearest dwellings located on Foston Lane such that it will not impact on the residential amenities of the occupiers of those dwellings.”

Plans for the Enterprise Zone have already been approved in outline form, but each individual unit will need to go through the planning process too, in a much more detailed form.
