LATEST NEWS:

FIREFIGHTERS were called to a 5G mast blaze in Bierley yesterday evening.

This dramatic photograph shows the mast, on the junction of Miles Hill Crescent and Burnham Avenue, engulfed in flames with plumes of smoke billowing into the sky.

A crew from Bradford fire station used a large jet to bring the fire under control and have now left the scene.

Police and a mast engineer were also called.

West Yorkshire Police was called at 6.27pm to the scene and officers put a cordon in place while the fire crew dealt with the blaze.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "The incident is being investigation as arson and enquiries are ongoing."

It's the latest in a series of 5G mast fires across the district.

The same mast was destroyed by a fire back on Friday, July 17.

Councillor Michael Johnson (Lab, Tong) said at the time, if the Bierley incident is like others linked to a pandemic scare, then the people who did it were "idiots".

A member of the public said the 5G mast on Burnham Avenue had only been reinstalled about three weeks ago.

The force has now issued an appeal following the two fires overnight.
