The youngsters in this photograph will probably never forget the day when footballing legend Albert Geldard paid a visit to their school in June 1974.
Bradford born Albert, a former England International footballer, had travelled to Whetley Lane School, as part of the build-up to the school’s centenary celebrations due to be held later that month.
During his footballing career, Albert, once the school’s head boy, played youth football for both Bradford Schools and Manningham Mills, before joining Bradford Park Avenue to become known as the youngest player to appear in the Football League.
He was later transferred to Everton, won an FA Cup winner’s medal and afterwards moved to Bolton Wanderers.
Mr Geldard also had a passion for magic and was often referred to as “a real wizard” both on and off the pitch.
