While some criminals are brought to justice, other crimes go unsolved for years some might not ever reach a conclusion.

There are some truly diabolical cases on the list including the brutal murder of a taxi driver and the man who was given an 18 year sentence for a murder he didn’t commit- tragically, these killers could still be walking among us.

Sultan Mahmood

This 1979 murder of a Manningham man sent shockwaves through the community.

Sultan Mahmood’s body was found on February 23 with multiple stab wounds- he was also burned almost beyond recognition.

Strangely, his head was bound with a dark blue material with a white leaf design and blue ribbon.

His body was discovered by two men while scouring the disused railway coal yard in Dryden Street for scrap.

Initially, police believed the murder to be carried out by an Asian Mafia gang- office appealed to the Asian community to help them in the case.

No one stood trial for the murder until 1983,  but even then the prosecution fell apart, with a judge branding two witnesses "feckless, worthless and totally dishonest."

The last known lead in the case was in 1994 when a member of the public came forward with information they had kept secret for 15 years.

Despite this, police didn’t consider the information valuable enough to re-open the case and it remains unsolved.

Carol Wilkinson

In October 1997, 20-year-old Carol Wilkinson was walking to work.

However, the Bradford woman would never make it to her destination.

She was attacked and bludgeoned to death with a coping stone- her body was found in a field off Gain Lane at Thornbury.

22-year-old Anthony Steel was initially arrested for her murder. When he was arrested he later confessed to killing her during interviews that lasted three days.

However, he later claimed that he was “badgered” by the police into confessing a crime he did not commit.

Courts also ruled that Mr Steel was mentally handicapped and a vulnerable interviewee

He spent 20 years in prison but was later acquitted of the murder.

Unfortunately, the police haven’t received any new lines of enquiry about the case.

Johnny Gill

The historic murder took place in 1888 and was labelled as one of the worst murders in England’s criminal history.

It surrounds the murder of seven-year-old John Gill who was brutally beaten and murdered.

‘Little Johnny’ was last seen at around 27th December at 8.30am when he was playing with other boys in the street.

His body was discovered by Joseph Bucke- the body itself had been horrifically mutilated and dismembered.

A book by Kathryn McMaster called ‘Who Killed Little Johnny Gill’ attempts to unravel the mystery and puts forward theories about who committed the crime.

The killer was never caught but some people think theorise that It could have been the local milkman William Barrett or even just an opportunist stranger.

Lindsay Rimer

This murder took place back in 1995 and police still haven’t discovered who was behind the crime.

Lindsay Rimer was just 13-years-old when she strangled to death.

Her body was found in the Rochdale Canal five months after her death.

Andy Glover from Mytholmroyd discovered the body while checking for debris in the area.

The last known sighting of the teen was when she was captured on CCTV buying cornflakes on Crown Street.

In 2016, a Bradford man was arrested on suspicion of murdering Lindsay but was released on bail a day later.
