WHO will be the next to win Fundraiser of the Year at the Community Stars Awards?

That's the question on judges' minds as the annual awards ceremony returns for 2020.

The awards, organised by the Telegraph & Argus and Bradford Council, are designed to give recognition to those striving to make a difference in their local communities.

Our readers are being asked to nominate people before a panel of judges sift through all the nominations and whittle them down to a shortlist of nominees.

As the Community Stars awards enters its tenth year, this is your chance to nominate your unsung heroes who go the extra mile to help others in their corner of the world.

The Fundraiser of the Year award is our latest feature, explaining more about each of the nine categories and past winners.

In the online nomination form, people will be asked to explain what this person does in a voluntary capacity, the qualities that you think makes this person/group special and explain more about a recent example of something they have done.

Helen Lynch won The Fundraiser of the Year award in 2019 for creating an annual fashion show.

Helen raised £12,000, for charities who helped her during her own cancer diagnosis.

The tongue cancer survivor has been an avid fundraiser over the years with ambitious goals.

One of her most high profile fundraisers was to cover the costs of introducing Laryngo-pharyngoscope retractors at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

The retractors, which cost £7,500 each, enhance surgical technique enabling the surgeon to have a better and longer view with better access to the area.

This could mean future patients would not need chemo/radiotherapy.

In 2019, Hayley Collis, head of fundraising for Bradford Hospitals’ Charity, said: “Helen knows first-hand how it feels to undergo gruelling treatment for tongue cancer, so her hard work and dedication to improving the experience of future patients is commendable.

"While patients in Bradford receive a first class service, our charity is always looking for ways to provide even better."

Entries are online only this year.

The finalists will be selected in November. In December, the winners will be revealed in a special T&A supplement and win medals for their efforts.
