LATEST NEWS: Fire crew still at scene of blaze which ripped through flat above electrical shop

A Bradford shop has been badly damaged in a serious fire tonight.

Firefighters were scrambled to the shop in Fagley Road just before 10pm.

On arrival, they found the first floor of the building completely engulfed in flames.

The shop has accommodation above, with the fire service stating that five additional properties had been affected by smoke from the blaze.

An onlooker said they believed the fire service's attention was focussed on an electrical and hardware shop, although the name of the affected shop has yet to be confirmed.

A fire service spokesperson said crews had been called to a "shop fire with accommodation above" and that the  first floor was "100 per cent involved"

Firefighters used six breathing apparatus and three hose reel jets as they fought back the inferno.

Crews from Bradford, Shipley, Stanningley and Fairweather Green attended the scene.

Meanwhile, one aerial appliance from Leeds was used to strip the roof off.
