THE search is back on to find Bradford's Good Neighbour of the Year in the tenth Community Stars Awards.

The annual event is designed to reward those across the district who strive to make a positive difference.

Sponsored by Incommunities, one of the largest housing providers in the UK, the award celebrates people that go above and beyond to do the neighbourly thing in their local community.

The award was created to recognise those residents who step forward when they find their neighbours are facing difficulties or just need some odd jobs tackling.

From someone who picks up your shopping or regularly hosts litter picks to shovelling snow from elderly neighbours’ drives, who will you nominate?

Adrienne Reid, Incommunities Assistant Chief Executive, Neighbourhoods said: “We are delighted to once again be sponsoring the Good Neighbour category of the Community Star Awards and celebrating those in our communities that make such a positive difference to the lives of others.

“This year is proving challenging and difficult for all of us but there has many examples of the kindness of people helping others in our communities, from running errands and cooking meals to simply keeping in touch with a neighbour. If you know someone or a group that has been doing amazing things to help their communities and neighbours at this time then please nominate them now. We want to shine a light on these special heroes.”

In 2019's Community Stars Awards, Margaret Wright won for her inspiring litter-free mission along the River Aire for the past 13 years.

Her nominator told how Margaret collects litter and fastens bin bags to fences and posts along the path for people to use - protecting animals living in and around the water.

She also picks up other people’s rubbish along the path. Sometimes the bags are filled overnight.

Even though Margaret deals with mobility problems, she carries the filled bags to where they can be disposed of correctly. Margaret even has to split heavier bags to make the loads lighter or carry them part way and return later when feeling strong enough.

Those nominating someone special will be asked what this person does in a voluntary capacity, the qualities that you think makes this person/group special as well as ask for a recent example of something they have done.

Entries are online only this year. People can nominate someone for an award by visiting https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/communitystars/communitystarsnominationform/
