A RIVERSIDE footpath in Baildon has been closed after a section of it collapsed into the River Aire.

A small section of footpath and river bank at Baildon Bridge, where Shipley meets Baildon, fell into the river this afternoon. An area of fencing is also resting precariously on the crumbling bank.

Shortly after 3.30pm today Bradford Council Tweeted about the incident, and said officers were at the scene to make the site safe.

It said: "We understand a large section of footpath, banking and fencing has fallen into the River Aire at Baildon Bridge, near The Shuttle shop.

"Please avoid the area until Council officers have assessed and made safe.

"We will keep you updated." Shortly afterwards Council staff closed off the footpath, which links the River Aire in Baildon to the Leeds Liverpool Canal in Saltaire. It is also home to the River Aire Arts Trail.
