BOWLING Pool will today re-open for the first time in months, although some of its new facilities cannot yet be used.

The Flockton Road facility, run by Bradford Council has been part of a £433,000 refurbishment and redevelopment that has seen the building closed for much of the year.

The pool will re-open today, but a new sauna cannot yet be used due to Covid-19 restrictions.

A new gym including a studio, weights room and physio space is being built in the building as part of the refurbishment works, but that will not be completed until a later this year.

The refurbishment has been to upgrade the facilities, improve energy efficiency and reduce its running costs, and Bradford Council hopes it will encourage more people to use council run facilities rather than private gyms.

The pool has had a new roof, there has been the refurbishment of the pool plant, new heating and ventilation system s installed, major electrical work and decorating throughout the building.

New, improved disabled facilities have also been created to make it easier for people in wheelchairs to access the pool.

The pool will initially open for length swimming, but Bradford Council will shortly be getting in touch with customers about restarting swimming lessons.

Customers must book and pay on line for their swimming sessions at all Bradford Council pools and sports centres.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: "I am so pleased that Bowling Pool is reopening and I'm sure that the residents who use the pool will see a difference and be able to use the new facilities when we are able to open the sauna safely.

"The new gym will be a great addition to the offer at Bowling Pool and I look forward to the gym opening later this year."
