IT seemed nothing could stand in Liversedge's way this season. They have won six games out of six in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division and continue to march on in the FA Vase.

In the end, it has taken a global pandemic to bring them down, with tonight's home league game against Handsworth called off earlier today as a precaution.

There is known to be a Covid-19 issue at Sedge, but the club will not be giving any further details at this stage.

The club's Covid officer, Jeanette Emery, said: "As Covid officer for Liversedge FC, I unfortunately have to announce that tonight’s NCEL game against Handsworth FC has been cancelled.

"This is due to Covid issues at our club. Following club, FA and NHS protocols, this decision has been made for the safety of everyone.

"We are gutted, but the health and wellbeing of all players, coaching staff, volunteers and supporters will always come first.

"Thank you to the NCEL and Handsworth FC for their co-operation in postponing this fixture.

"We are currently working on ticket refunds at the moment and you will be contacted in due course.

"This will be on social media channels also.

"I can’t divulge any information on individuals due to confidentiality."

Eccleshill United's game at Maltby Main tonight in the same division is still set to go ahead as normal.
