SOUL legend Lionel Richie has been announced as the latest act set to perform in Yorkshire next summer.

Audiences would be Dancing on the Ceiling - if there was one at Scarborough Open Air Theatre - when Richie takes to the stage on Saturday, June 12.

Tickets for superstars performance in our county go on sale this Friday from 8am, so be sure set those alarms.

This is the second time Lional will be performing in Scarborough following his sold out show in 2018. He had been due on the Yorkshire coast this summer but the Covid-19 pandemic caused this to be cancelled.

Richie, who will be in Yorkshire eight days before his 72nd birthday, said: “I was really excited to be playing at Scarborough Open Air Theatre this summer as I enjoyed a truly wonderful night there in 2018.

“I was very sad that, like so many things, the show had to be delayed but obviously, everyone’s health and safety comes first.

"I’m now looking forward to it even more and know we’ll all have such an incredible night of partying together."

Fans will be able to enjoy his timeless hits and sing along to classics such as Three Times A Lady, Truly, Dancing on the Ceiling, Say You Say Me, Hello and All Night Long.

Lionel has sold more than 125 million albums worldwide and won countless awards.

In recent years, he headlined massive festivals including Glastonbury – drawing the festival’s biggest crowd ever with more than 200,000 attendees.

Peter Taylor, Scarborough Open Air Theatre programmer, said: “We are incredibly proud and excited that Lionel Richie - one of the most successful and celebrated music artists of all time - is returning to Scarborough Open Air Theatre.

“His 2018 sold-out show here was just a brilliant night and this is going to be another amazing show by an undoubted global superstar. Roll on June 12 next year – we cannot wait!”
