TRIBUTES have been paid to a respected community figure who died after contracting Covid-19.

Nawab Ali, 61, from the West Bowling area of Bradford, had been in a coma for three weeks at Bradford Royal Infirmary before his death on October 17.

Mr Ali's nephew, Abdul Nasir, 40, described him as a "pillar of the community" and "an example for all of us".

He said: "He helped everyone. He had a kind heart, he helped other people, he always had a smile.

"He didn't have a bad bone in his body. I've never in my life met anyone like him."

In a heart-wrenching turn, Abdul Saboor, 64, his best friend and Mr Nasir's father, is currently in intensive care battling Covid.

Mr Ali cared for his mother before her death earlier this year and they are now buried next to each other.

He was said to have dedicated his life to helping people around the world and supported many families and charities.

Many tributes were left on the Janaza announcement page, describing him as a "humble and gracious man" with a "kind-hearted soul".

Waseem Khan said of his uncle: "He was truly a firm believer in equality and diversity and reached out to all communities."

Mr Ali is survived by his wife Shenaz, his five sons and three daughters and four grandchildren.
