SIR - With the impeding imposition of tier three on Bradford, it is important to understand the science and the complete fog the Government appears to be lost in.

Test track and trace is the only way of ending the nose dive of the economy and saving the lives of those exposed to Covid because their work is public facing, of reducing deaths from Covid and of those dying because the health service isn't looking at their illness.

Test track and trace has to be run effectively, returning 99per cent of results within 24 hours and tracing 90per cent of contacts within a further 24 hours. It must be available to all with weekly tests for public facing jobs and a requirement for all those entering the country with isolation for 14 days. The Government should urgently transfer funds to local authorities to make it work.

The probability of getting a vaccine by this time next year is about 30per cent so there's a high probability that Covid will continue to be part of our lives for years to come. An effective test track and trace system is the most important thing for all of us and the sooner we get it the better.
