LATEST NEWS: WATCH: Strange shooting lights seen in sky above Bradford (and here's what they are)

YOU may have spotted bright lights in the Bradford sky last night and wondered what was going on.

Social media certainly did last night with many Facebook groups speculating about what they saw.

Was it search lights? Laser beams?

MC Shawzy on the Cottingley Residents page posted: “Does anybody have an idea where this laser is coming from, or what it’s for?”

Replies to his post included: Alan Pennell: “Looks like it’s coming from Bradford. Toller Lane maybe?”

Ian Williams: “How far can a laser be seen from? Driving home via M621 tonight there was a laser beam on top of a skyscraper.”

Maxx Liddemore to the Cleckheaton Matters group: “Anyone know what this search light is?”

But the police solved the mystery.

West Yorkshire Police’s Contact Management Centre’s Twitter said the lights were nothing to worry about.

Here is their explanation:

What is Laser Light City?

THE skies above Leeds will be illuminated by a "spectacular" interactive laser display later this month when Light Night Leeds presents a new kind of cultural extravaganza.

Specially designed to allow people to enjoy the event safely, remotely and in line with social distancing, Laser Light City will give residents all across the city the chance to take charge of an crisscrossing network of light beams shining from the rooftops of seven Leeds buildings.

Visible from miles around, the colours, movement and pattern of the display, which is sponsored by The Light, can be controlled using a smartphone, tablet or computer and watched either in person, at home or via a live online video stream.

Created by BAFTA winning artist Seb Lee, the event from October 22 to October 24 will be the first in a series of illuminated art works taking place through the autumn and winter, all aimed at bringing the city some light relief during a difficult year.
