AN Oxenhope pub has been voted by T&A readers as the Best Eat Out to Help Out venue.
"It was nice to win something in a time when our industry has been hit tremendously hard," said Michael Roper, landlord of the Dog and Gun Country Pub at Oxenhope. "We've been here 26 years and nothing had stopped us trading up until we had to shut down for 15 weeks in March. It was absolutely heart-breaking.
"When we reopened my wife Kathryn did a brilliant job sorting out all the Covid measures and our customers came back big style.
"We're a food-led public house so we extended our opening hours so people could take advantage of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme.
"But the future is a very worrying and the 10pm curfew is bringing the hospitality industry to its knees."
Throughout the past few months, Mr Roper credited his daughter and son-in-law, Jodie and Ian Watt, with "helping us out immensely. We couldn't have got through without them."
He also said Keighley-based Timothy Taylor brewery has been outstanding.
