PLANS to open a new drive thru coffee shop next to a Keighley supermarket have been approved, 10 months after they were submitted.

A planning application for a currently vacant site off Bradford Road in Keighley was first submitted to Bradford Council by Euro Garages in September, and has undergone a number of amendments and tweaks since then.

The drive thru cafe will be built beyond the Asda petrol station, with access from the entrance to the supermarket car park.

Details of which brand of coffee shop will take on the unit have yet to be revealed.

The site, once used for car sales, has been identified by the Council as a former employment zone, and planning officers said: "The proposed unit would create employment and help support the town centre use and is therefore considered to be acceptable in this location and accord with the requirements of these policies.

"The proposed development is considered to provide sufficient off street car parking provision and would not unacceptably displace parking for the existing supermarket."

Last month an application to build a drive thru coffee shop in the car park of the Asda in Lidget Green, Bradford, was approved.
