A "SMALL GROUP" of pupils at a large Bradford secondary school have been sent home after one student tested positive for coronavirus.

The positive case of the Covid-19 virus at Buttershaw Business & Enterprise College Academy (BBEC), in Reevy Road West, was confirmed this afternoon in a message sent to parents and carers.

It was sent out at around 1.46pm.

One pupil in Year 10 has contracted the virus and the school has sent some other students in that year group home to isolate.

Their parents and carers have been contacted.

All other pupils should continue to attend school.

The message said: "One Year 10 student has tested positive for Covid-19.

"We have followed advice from Public Health England.

"A small group of Year 10 students have been sent home to isolate and parents have been contacted.

"If you have not been contacted, your child has not been in direct contact and should continue to attend school.

"If your child has symptoms at any point, they should stay at home, get a test, and inform school.

"Regards, BBEC."

BBEC is one of the largest secondary schools in Bradford.

At the time of its latest Ofsted inspection (back in June 2019), there were 1,411 pupils on the school roll.

BBEC has a capacity for 1610 students in total.
