A market-leading Bradford company is partnering an initiative to encourage school and college students, as well as the wider community, to consider how tech impacts on every business.

Exa Networks is jointly hosting Bradford Tech Week, beginning October 19, 2020, which is intended to showcase Bradford’s technology and digital industry and to encourage people to consider potential careers.

The award-winning company is the creator of DarkLight, the UK’s fastest internet connection, and has provided other unique bespoke internet services to businesses over the past 17 years.

It specialises in bringing incredible performance and complete customisability to thousands of schools and businesses across the UK, often significantly cutting costs while improving performance across the board.

Working closely with other businesses, schools, colleges, and the university, Exa Networks wants to use Tech Week to encourage the next generation to think about future careers in the tech industry, whether it is a first job out of education or someone considering a job change.

Mark Cowgill, Co-Founder & Director, speaks enthusiastically about the company’s Exa Foundation, which organises events with schools across the country of which over 99 per cent are completely free to attend.

He says: “We founded the Exa Foundation in 2015 to inspire, support and promote the effective use of technology in education. It is a not-for-profit part of the company designed to benefit a wide range of groups in and around education - teachers, students, schools, families and even some businesses.

“We are committed to supporting the local community by running inspirational, interesting and genuinely useful sessions, creating safe, welcoming and diverse environments for the development of digital skills”.

Exa Networks supports placements and work experience and encourages the next generation to join  in and see what careers are available within the tech industry.

“You don’t always have to be a techy person to work with us,” he explains. “There are lots of other roles within the company that might suit you. We are keen to recruit locally, and more than 80 per cent of staff at the head office are from the Bradford district.

“Now, more than ever, there are amazing opportunities within the industry, and Bradford is at the heart of it. Tech Week will provide local businesses with the chance to ‘virtually’ open their doors to people of all ages and backgrounds and to get them thinking about how they might get involved”.
