SIR - Alan Bates, in his letter on Diversity's Black Lives Matter performance on Britain's Got Talent (T&A letters, September 26), believes that "many people" in the UK believe that the response to the killing of African-American, George Floyd, "has gone too far or is disproportionate".
If Alan thought a little more logically, he would realise that the response was triggered by what was in effect, the last straw.
The response was not just to the killing of one man, but to the killing and abuse of other African Americans over many years. As for "going too far" or being "disproportionate", a substantial real kick is often required to set real change in motion.
Further kick-starts may be required if the engine fails to start.
