A councillor has spoken of his sadness at hearing of the death of a baby girl after an incident in the Halifax Road area of Keighley.

And many heartfelt tributes have been paid on social media.

The little girl, called Star Alicia Hobson, was taken to hospital on Tuesday, September 22, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The death has been described as a “big loss” and was greeted with sadness by a local politician.

Keighley councillor Abid Hussain (Lab, Keighley Central) told the Telegraph & Argus: “This is serious and sad news.

“The death of such a young girl is a big loss and my condolences go to the family.

“I have deep sympathy for them.

“Once the police complete their investigation and have an outcome for the cause of death, I would expect see fair justice for those involved.”

The news was also met with an outpouring of sadness on social media.

One woman, commenting on Facebook, said: “How very sad. RIP little one.”

Another said: “Heartbreaking, poor little baby girl.”

And one poster wrote: “RIP baby Star.

“You will be missed by everyone, such a young life.”

Another wrote: “RIP. Star beautiful girl xxx.”

A fundraising page in memory of baby Star has been set up on gofundme.

The organiser of the fundraising page wrote: “As a mum myself, I can’t bare to imagine what the families are going through at this heartbreaking time.

“Therefore I have decided to set up a Go Fund Me so we are able to come together and help raise money towards giving the little angel the send off she deserves.”

  • Two women have been charged with causing or allowing the death of a child. Frankie Smith, 19, of Halifax Road, Keighley, and Savanna Brockhill, 27, of Ashbourne Road, near Bolton Road, Bradford, have appeared at court. During a hearing held at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court this afternoon, they were both remanded into custody to appear at the higher court next month. They are scheduled to appear at Bradford Crown Court on Monday, October 26.
