THREE year groups at Bradford Girls' Grammar School have been sent home to self-isolate or study at home after two people at the school tested positive for Covid-19.

All pupils in Year 8 and some in Year 9 have to self-isolate for 14 days after there were two positive cases and several others displayed symptoms at the free school.

Staff who have had close contact with students at the school in Girlington have also been ordered to self-isolate, and due to the staff shortage caused by the outbreak all students in Years 9 and 10 have also been ordered to study from home for two weeks.

The school remains open to all other year groups and children of key workers, as long as they are not displaying symptoms.

A statement from Bradford Girls' Grammar School said: "As two members of our school community have tested positive for COVID-19 and several others have symptoms, we have we taken the decision to close some year groups temporarily.

"All Year 8 pupils have been told to self-isolate for 14 days, as have staff who had close contact with them.

"Some Year 9 pupils have also been asked to self-isolate for 14 days. Due to the number of teachers self-isolating, the rest of Year 9 and Year 10 have been asked to work at home on work set by their teachers.

"The children of key workers will be able to still attend, so long as they have not been told to self-isolate.

"The school remains open to all other year groups.

"All parents and staff have been notified and offered appropriate support and advice.

"The decision was taken in full consultation with Public Health England and Bradford Council’s public health team.

"The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is paramount to our decision making, as are the ongoing prevention measures we are taking in school to reduce the risk of transmission."
