ANGLERS in the district have welcomed news that the sport hasn’t been subjected to extra Covid-19 restrictions.
But as numbers taking-up the pursuit continue to increase, anglers are being urged to ensure they adhere to guidelines designed to prevent the spread of the virus.
The Angling Trust has praised clubs and associations – such as those in Keighley, Skipton, Ilkley and Bradford – plus fisheries, for the way they’ve complied with guidance so far.
However, the trust – the representative body for anglers in England and Wales – stresses the importance of continued vigilance.
Spokesman Jamie Cook says: “Through our When We Fish Again campaign earlier this year, we demonstrated to Government ministers that by following sensible Covid-19 guidelines, anglers could enjoy their sport in a safe and responsible manner. Following the Government’s latest announcement, we are pleased that it has not sought to place further restrictions on healthy outdoor activities such as angling.
“We are still fishing and there’s no reason why that won’t continue as long as anglers follow the guidance. By working effectively and responsibly, we have ensured angling is seen as part of the solution and not the problem – let’s keep it that way.”
