Vulnerable people in the district who were housed during the pandemic will be helped to stay in accommodation thanks to nearly £400,000 of Government funding, The funding for Bradford is part of a wider £5m Government funding announcement for Yorkshire and the Humber, made yesterday by Minister for Rough Sleeping and Housing Kelly Tolhurst.   A total of 17 councils across the region will receive funding to ensure interim accommodation and support for the most vulnerable people in society. This includes Kirklees Council, which will receive £72,000 and Bradford Council, which will receive £391,000 that will help individuals to move into longer term housing and help people into supported accommodation to manage their mental health. The money, part of the Government’s Next Steps Accommodation Programme, will help make life-changing differences to the most vulnerable by supporting them to move on with their lives and address complex needs such as substance misuse and mental health issues.    Councils and providers will help people into the private rented sector, secure interim accommodation such as supported housing, or reconnect with friends and family, and assess the wider support these vulnerable people need in order to rebuild their lives. Separately, applications are now being considered for a further £161 million support intended to provide over 3, 300 additional supported homes this year for those sleeping rough or currently housed in emergency accommodation. The bidding has now closed and details on successful bids will be announced in due course. It is part of broader support to provide 6,000 such homes over four years.  The Next Steps Accommodation Programme is part of the government’s landmark commitment to break the cycle of homelessness and end rough sleeping for good.  Minister for Rough Sleeping and Housing, Kelly Tolhurst MP said:   “This funding will make a real difference to vulnerable peoples’ lives in Yorkshire and the Humber, continuing to help them address complex needs, and to rebuild their lives, away from the streets in safer interim accommodation.  “I want to commend councils across the region along with their partners for the support they’ve provided so far. Together we are providing the essential support required that will help end rough sleeping and break the cycle of homelessness.”
