PUBS from across the district have been given awards by the Bradford Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

The Salt Cellar and Caroline Street Social Club, both in Saltaire, The Fox in Shipley and the Corn Dolly in Bradford city centre are the latest drinking establishments to be recognised by the Bradford branch of CAMRA.

After presenting the Pub of the Year 2020 award to the Record Café last week, branch members have been playing catch-up on presenting its other awards which were delayed due to the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown and associated shutting of pubs.

Last Tuesday the Corn Dolly, on Bolton Road, received the Pub of the Year 2020 runner-up award and a Special Award for Excellence for appearing in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for over 30 years.

Peter Down, acting chairman of Bradford CAMRA, said: "The consistent quality of the pub is reflected by the fact that it has now featured in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for over 30 years. Neil and the team at the pub are particularly proud about receiving a special award to reflect this."

Bradford CAMRA member Josie Boothroyd added: "It's brilliant to get into the Good Beer Guide for more than 30 years in a row. It's not an easy achievement considering how many pubs have opened and closed over the years."

A day later, CAMRA presented the Salt Cellar, on Saltaire Road, with the Outer Bradford Pub of the Year 2020 award.

Mr Down said: "Donna and the team have worked hard to establish the pub since opening it in December 2017, having taken it on from its previous incarnation as the Victoria. To receive the award in a relatively short time since first opening reflects the time and effort they have put in."

Manager Donna Hamilton, who has 25 years experience in the pub trade, said: "It's a great achievement for all of the staff at the Salt Cellar. It means so much to be given the award. We work very hard and it's paid off at the end of the day."

Then last Friday Caroline Street Social Club, was presented with CAMRA's Club of the Year 2020 award. They won the same award last year.

Mr Down said: "Mark and the team were so pleased to receive the award that they commissioned their own sign which is now displayed outside to commemorate the fact. The team has also not been idle during the COVID-19 lockdown. They've put in lovely beer garden to the rear."

CAMRA rounded off the week by presenting the runner-up Outer Bradford Pub of the Year 2020 award to Chris Bee and his team at The Fox in Shipley.

Mr Down added: "All of the premises have received numerous messages of congratulations since notice of their awards has been posted on the branch Facebook site and those of the pubs themselves.

"This shows how well regarded they are amongst the communities they serve. We wish them ongoing success in the future."
