A POPULAR pub in Calverley has told of its "moral decision" to temporarily close its doors following a positive coronavirus case.

The Thornhill was informed that a customer - who was a friend of an employee - came into the pub on Wednesday evening of last week and has since tested positive.

After consulting Public Health England the pub was told it should do a deep clean the pub and continue with its social distancing measures.

The member of staff was also asked to go and get a test having been identified as someone who has come into contact with the positive case.

The staff member has been advised to self-isolate by track and trace teams after showing symptoms.

Revealing the news on their Facebook page, the owners said: "So then as far as we can see there is a moral decision to be made and we just feel that the safest thing to do is to close the pub until we are confident we can reopen safely and staff are being advised to go and get tested.

"Track and Trace have not been in touch with us however we will phone them today and if they require details of anyone in the pub on Wednesday of last week we will of course provide that information.

"Obviously we are feeling very worried and overwhelmed by the situation. We live above the pub with two young children and ourselves are not prepared to take any risks. But also the safety of our staff and customers is paramount to us.

"I hope that people respect our decision and can show some compassion for the situation we find ourselves in."

Anyone with questions has been asked to message the pub via its Facebook page, The Thornhill, or email info@thethornhillcalverley.co.uk
