MEET our ‘Charity Champions’ - local people going the extra mile to raise funds for or support a good cause.
In our new regular feature we’re highlighting people across the district who are helping local, national and international charities in all kinds of ways. Whether it’s a fundraising campaign, a fun run or a cake sale, we want to hear what you or your family are doing to champion charities and other good causes.
Here we meet 11-and-a-half-year-old Jack Dobbie of Baildon, who has created a way of sending personalised postcards, helping families keep in touch in these challenging times. Jack is raising funds from his imaginative project for his Scout trip to Slovenia.
The innovative youngster has created CardsByJack.com - a new way to send postcards inexpensively while including a personalised photo. Developed on a code-free website called Bubble.io. the site uses an API to send postcards to be printed and dispatched.
According to Jack, the project ticked three boxes: part of his schoolwork, helping his friends communicate during lockdown and raising funds for his upcoming Scout trip.
Says Jack: “To raise money for my scout trip, I was originally going to wash cars, but COVID-19 stopped me from doing that. So instead, I made CardsbyJack.com. I made CardsByJack on Bubble.io which is a no code website that allows you to build apps (like this one) without being able to code.”
