It’s certainly been a unique summer for Brits, thanks to the coronavirus.

Holidays were cancelled and social distancing measures were put in place - but the pandemic hasn’t stopped people from committing crimes.

Using the latest crime statistics from June and July 2019/2020, we can see the number of crimes reported in Bradford has decreased by around 2 per cent this summer.

However, crimes such as anti-social behaviour and drug-related crime saw an increase in summer 2020.

Here are some summer crime statistics relating to Bradford, including how the figures compare to last year and which streets are a crime hot spot.  

How the number of crimes reported in Bradford has changed - 2019 vs 2020

According to police data, 14340 crimes were committed in summer 2019 compared to 13956 this summer.

In both 2019 and 2020, violence and sexual offences were the most reported crimes in Bradford- and there has been a five per cent increase of reports this summer compared to last.

Reports of anti-social behaviour also increased this summer- 2160 reports were made in 2019 and 2662 incidents were reported this summer, which is an increase of 23 per cent.

Drug-related crime also saw an increase of 36 per cent in June and July 2020.

However, it’s not all bad news as some crime have seen a decrease in reports this summer.

Criminal damage and arson is down 6 per cent this summer, along with vehicle crime which has seen a dramatic 52 per cent decrease.

With more people staying in and social distancing during the pandemic, you would expect burglary reports to be lower this summer- and that is exactly what the police figures suggest.

Burglary reports decreased by around 32 per cent this summer compared to last.

Bradford streets with the highest number of crime reports in summer

In summer 2019, the Bradford street with the most amount of crime reports was Adelaide Street, where 90 crimes were reported over the summer months- the majority of which (28) were drug-related.

In summer 2020, Adelaide Street still holds the crime top spot, and crime reports on this street have increased by 30% this summer.

42 of these reports are related to violence and sexual offences and 36 are related to drug crime- this means that drug related crime on this street has increased by almost 30 per cent (28.5%) this summer.

Adelaide Street isn’t the only crime hot spot in Bradford.

Bridge Street has also received a lot of police call outs this summer- 43 incidents have taken place in June and July.

Lower Wyke Green (39 crime incidents) and Ranelagh Avenue (37 crimes) also top the list.
