The launch of a restored network of paths in Oakworth Park and the official opening of a toddlers play area in Silsden Park are both scheduled for the New Year.

The plan to reinstate the network of Victorian pathways in Oakworth - built by former local industrialist Sir Isaac Holden - was boosted by a £32,644 grant from Yorventure.

This group distributes grants from landfill tax credits generated by Yorwaste Ltd - operator of the Skibeden landfill site near Skipton.

The Friends of Oakworth Park have spent three years on the project to transform the paths, which had fallen into a state of neglect making them largely inaccessible.

The official opening of the paths should take place in January.

Yorventure also contributed £35,000 to the Silsden Park toddlers play area, work on which has now been completed. The money allowed for the purchase and installation of new play equipment for young children in a safe environment.

The scheme was developed by Silsden Youth Council, backed by Bradford Parks & Landscape Services, in response to parents' requests.

Silsden Town Council also contributed cash towards the initiative. Councillor Pat Bottomley said: "There are more visitors to the park and children are enjoying playing on the new equipment."
